An Outpost
of Civilization: Pecos National Monument
See one of the lesser explored ruins near Santa
Fe and learn about its importance in New Mexico history. An important pueblo
and trading center, it also had more than one missionary church. The monument
itself encompasses Civil War battle sites as well as the remains of Greer
Garson's Forked Lightning Ranch. On the way back, stop at Arroyo Hondo
an unreconstructed ruin, just outside of town.
O'Keeffe Country and Beyond See the extent of history in New Mexico up near
Abiquiu in O'Keeffe country. Go to an ancient Tewa ruin, visit the original
church of Abiquiu, hear stories about New Mexico's most famous artist,
Georgia O'Keeffe, and stop at Ghost Ranch where dinosaurs were discovered.
Relax in the late afternoon at the famous hot springs in Ojo Caliente.
Wine Country: North or South Did you know that New Mexico has had vineyards for hundreds of years? How does
the wine compare to those of California? Find out with an afternoon's visit to three or four local wineries
and a little history thrown in too. The tour guide will be glad to act as designated driver.
A Real Indian Detour: Gallup and More Go to Zuni and see the river where the Shalako
crosses every winter. Visit the pueblo where the Spaniards first made contact
with the Pueblos. Tour the Hopi villages and stop at the historic Hubbell
Trading Post. Hike throught the ruins of Pueblo III culture at Chaco Canyon
and see the Sky CIty of Acoma. Depending on the time of year, attend a
dance at one of the Hopi villages, visit the studio of an artist, or attend
a rug auction. All tours custom- designed.
